Well, there's no easy way around it - we're packing the Mouse den. The dearest chief is being transferred, and so with him we mice will move too.
It's been six years here in lovely, lovely Petaluma. Six wonderful years in the place we will likely come home to someday, whenever Mr. Mouse is done gallivanting around the world. Petaluma my friends, feels like home.
There is much to get excited about, namely that we are moving (for a few years), to the great state of Hawaii. Oh my God, yes, that's what I said. There will be haupia pie, and coconuts, and beach after beach. These are all very good things.
But there is also, several weeks into mulling this move, an incredible amount of fear and anxiety. Hawaii is wonderful. Moving two kids away from their home-sweet-home, is not.
So I'm clinging to this, this week: Travel builds character.
Good lord, if nothing else, hopefully my kids will come out of this as adaptable folks, something I fear will be a challenge for the older one. Transition is hard, really hard, and we're forcing a big one on him. But wish with me, if you will, for a speedy adaptation and a successful adult (someday), full of world experiences.
Yes, this is where I'm living right now.
So as these months whip by (early June is move time), and they surely will, Mouse will undoubtedly be reliving what is most precious in this place called home, and what lies ahead in our new adventure.
You are part of that, dearest Petaluma.
Aloha.
Hey Mel - a move to Hawaii sounds thrilling. You will be missed, though.

Wow, I don't even know what to say as you will be sorely missed. You have definitely been a part of what makes Petaluma so special!
I truly wish you the very best in your new venture and no doubt you'll have quite an experience in Hawaii!
Having been raised there myself all I can think of is the wonderful food you'll have access to. And what I most miss are wild fruits I used to find when exploring in the jungles. Ripe guavas, lilikoi (passion fruit) and the ever elusive Mountain Apple, unlike any other apple that's out there.
Take the kids out for true explorations and get with the beautiful nature that Hawaii has to offer...
Aloha! Anastasia
